9 Reasons to Join the Oregon
Association of Defense Counsel
||Practice groups geared toward substantive areas of the law.
OADC has practice groups organized around key substantive areas of the law to provide practicing lawyers with current information relevant to the substantive area of law in which they practice. These include: commercial, construction, coverage, employment (featuring its own employment law listserv), new lawyers, professional liability, product liability, transportation, and trial practice. OADC and its practice groups offer many leadership avenues for those who want to make a difference in the defense practice. There are opportunities to become involved in OADC publications, membership, legal issues, legislative issues, amicus briefs and practice group leadership. This is your organization, and members have a chance to influence the direction of the organization and the civil justice system.
||Fundamentals and fun at the Annual Convention.
The popular annual convention, regularly attended by 30 percent of OADC’s membership, is an invaluable resource for practical legal education and improving trial advocacy skills as well as networking at social events with colleagues from across the state.
||CLE and marketing opportunities through the Fall Seminar.
This seminar presents an in-depth discussion of current issues of interest to both OADC members and the insurance industry. It provides a unique opportunity to meet with insurance professionals in an informal environment which assists in building working relationships between OADC members and their insurance clients.
||Member's only email listserv and website.
Our member's only email listserv provides an opportunity to exchange information and tips. Our website is a valuable resource tool providing a variety of information.
||Timely information in the OADC Newsletter.
This award-winning quarterly publication contains current substantive and procedural developments in the law and editorial comments about current trends on a quarterly basis.
||A voice in the Legislature.
OADC manages and coordinates the massive efforts in the presentation of defense bar positions before the Legislature. A lobbyist and legislative committee works to preserve the civil justice system and the defense bar perspective.
||A voice within the Oregon State Bar.
The Oregon State Bar liaison committee was designed to monitor the activities of various state bar groups which might have an impact on OADC members. The committee encourages and facilitates participation of OADC members in state bar programs so the perspective of the defense bar will be heard.
||The Amicus Committee.
Members have direct access to the support of OADC for amicus briefs on cases of importance to the defense bar. Only OADC members are selected to write briefs on these important issues.
The commercial seminar is a CLE program designed specifically for commerical litigators and is held in the spring.
