8 Reasons to Join OADC

  1. Practice groups geared to substantive law (see listing for groups) - Practice groups are organized around key substantive areas of the law to provide practicing lawyers with current information relevant to the substantive area of law in which they practice, as well as leadership opportunities.
  2. Fundamentals and fun in Sunriver at the Annual Convention - An invaluable resource for practical legal education and improving trial advocacy skills as well as networking at social events with colleagues from across the state.
  3. CLE and networking at the Fall and Spring Seminars - The Fall Seminar presents a discussion of current issues of interest to both OADC members and the insurance industry, and a unique opportunity to meet with insurance professionals in an informal environment. The spring Commercial Seminar is a CLE program designed specifically for commercial litigators and their needs.
  4. Practical skills at the Defense Practice Academy and social hour with judges - This program is designed for attorneys with little or no trial or deposition experience. It is a specialized opportunity to have trial lawyers and judges explain the nuts and bolts of trial or depositions.
  5. General and employment-specific listservs and the OADC website - The listserve and website provide an opportunity to network, exchange information, and tips.
  6. Informative quarterly publication The Verdict - Contains current substantive and procedural developments in the law and editorial comments about current trends on a regular basis.
  7. Voice in the Legislature, Oregon State Bar, and Council on Court Procedures - OADC manages and coordinates efforts in the presentation of defense bar positions before the Legislature, Oregon State Bar and Council on Court Procedures. Our lobbyist and legislative committee work to preserve the civil justice system and the defense bar perspective.
  8. Amicus Committee - The Amicus Committee reviews requests for amicus participation on issues in Oregon appellate courts of significance to the members of the OADC. The committee consists of some of OADC’s most distinguished appellate attorneys, and selectively identifies cases on which the OADC can provide valuable input and perspective on issues which will have significant effect on civil litigation in the areas of law practice by OADC members.
